These tools facilitate desktop to desktop text, voice and video communication.
Skype enables text and voice conversations, free, with other Skype users, or at a cost, to landlines and mobile phones.
Otago Connect (powered by Adobe Connect) is a web-based conferencing system. You can text, talk and video each other as well as share documents, presentations, video clips, collaborate on a whiteboard, and poll participants.

Why or When to use this tool

Anytime you would like to communicate ‘in person’ with dispersed colleagues.

Skype you can use like a phone, with video, or like a conference call – nationally and internationally.

Otago Connect you can use for meetings, classes, tutorials, webinars; any time you would like a group of people together in one space.
