eCases is a collaborative initiative with AD Instruments to build online learning opportunities in the Integrated Cases programme of Early Learning in Medicine (Years 2 and 3).
Traditionally, Integrated Cases are delivered over two weeks in two face-to-face tutorials with Independent Learning (IDL) activities competed between tutorials. eCases adopts a blended learning model, and will over time deliver the first tutorial and the IDL of selected Integrated Cases as online modules. The second tutorial will remain as face-to-face time and will draw on material from the online components.
There is a need to introduce new techniques in anatomy teaching that integrate basic and clinical knowledge content, but don’t overload students with details or use lots of time to complete.
Our online tool – RCA eCases – asks students to self-learn some clinical anatomy, challenging them to integrate this learning with the content knowledge from that day’s lecture and labs. This combination allows a tension free working environment, provides feedback and links to external resources. It is much more than another online tutorial or MCQ test page.
A series of voluntary quizzes; three in chemical pathology topics for 2nd years, and seven in chemical pathology and endocrinology topics for 3rd year students; to practice linking basic endocrinology and chemical pathology teaching to clinical situations.
StudySmart is an online information skills course for ELM2 which is part of the EBP block. The course comprises a number of topics all of which culminate in a quiz. Each topic has a number of tasks associated with it. Students can do the tasks in order or go straight to the quiz if they feel they know the topic well enough. To progress to the next topic, a student needs to achieve 80% in the quiz.
